HMR never works alone. In order for families to have the hope, support and education needed for empowerment and change, HMR eagerly seeks like-minded community groups who can partner with these families and HMR in the process. From the non-profit, governmental and for-profit sectors, these partners provide invaluable elements to a holistic transformation. Below are some of the current groups that are working with HMR to strengthen families.
Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County
Every Partner Family at Habitat in St. Joseph County attends the HMR Family Life Seminar as a part of Habitat’s extensive training program. HMR has tailored the Family Life Seminar for Habitat so that it supports and enhances other elements of Habitat’s training.
City of Mishawaka
The City of Mishawaka provides support and funding so that every new homeowner in its First Time Homeowner Program attends a HMR training Seminar. The practical skills provided in the Seminar dovetail perfectly with the needs of these families as they move into their new homes.
Head Start
Head Start provides the opportunity for teenage mothers to continue their high school education through the School Age Mothers’ Program. A variety of courses are taught by a staff of trained professionals to meet the needs of all students. In the fall of 2010 HMR was granted the opportunity of teaching the Family Life Seminar as one of the scheduled courses for the students.
Evergreen Real Estate
In February, HMR was notified that we had chosen as the Continuing Education provider for Parkview Terrace Apartment Complex in Mishawaka, IN. This was made possible through a comprehensive grant initiated by Evergreen Real Estate Services to upgrade and rehab all 180 units. It includes construction of a community center where the Family Life Seminar and other activities will take place. Construction will begin later this year.
Walkerton Project
Currently, the Town of Walkerton and West York Redevelopment LP are partnering with Home Management Resources in a comprehensive neighborhood redevelopment project. An entire blighted neighborhood is being replaced by forty new single-family homes to serve lower income families. HMR has provided the Family Life Seminar to the Walkerton community and is now training local Walkerton counselors who will run the program on a regular schedule into the future.
