Reaching Out Spring 2003
Strong families make strong communities
Looking Ahead to a New Year
From the Executive Director
Devee A. Mulanix
Many of
us look back at the year ending and determine what we have, or have
not, accomplished. Home Management Resources certainly has many accomplishments
to be proud of. Our reputation within the community as an organization
that effectively assists families wishing to improve their skills in
running a home and raising a family to lead more productive lives has
resulted in many new and exciting agency partnerships. Our Family Life
Seminar has produced positive results at every venue.
We first
told about our contribution at the Center for the Homeless in the Winter
2002 addition of Reaching Out. We continue to provide the "New
Beginnings" series on an ongoing basis for Center residents. The
staff at the Center tell us that residents who have taken our "New
Beginnings" course choose to stay longer and complete more of the
Center’s total programming before making the decision to begin living
independently.
We will
begin to provide the "New Beginnings" series at Hope Rescue
Mission this spring. The series will be provided to both women and men
residents. *(See Hope Makes A Difference article on front page.)
The Juvenile
Justice Center has asked Home Management to expand our current programming
to include their Academy students and parents. Academy students are
teens mandated by the court to attend this alternative school. In addition,
their parents are required to attend workshops along with their teen
to strengthen communication skills and increase positive interaction.
Home Management
is also working with Teacher’s Credit Union to provide our program for
their employees through TCU’s employee enrichment program. TCU is consistently
in the forefront of providing their employees with various programs
to create happier, more productive life styles both at work and at home.
We are
also working with the South Bend Housing Authority to develop an orientation
program for their residents. This project will begin later this year
and will be conducted at the Housing Authority office. Each family will
be mandated to attend the two-hour workshop before moving into their
own apartment unit. The programming will focus on housecleaning, clutter
management and mold prevention.
Other projects on the
horizon include The Robinson Learning Center and Children’s Services
at Memorial Hospital. As you can see, we plan to be very busy in 2003!
This year, more than ever, we are looking for people who want to put
more meaning in their life and share with others new life skills to
enrich their lives as well as the lives of their family’s. Our greatest
resource remains to be the people who believe in our mission and want
to participate in the opportunity to make a difference. If you are one
of these people call Home Management and ask how you can help.
