Reaching Out Spring 2003
Strong families make strong communities
Hope Makes a Difference
Hope Rescue Mission called, "A Light In The Heart Of The City"
will begin the initial phase in the construction of their Family Life
Center in late February/early March. Part of the funding for this project
was recently provided by a grant from Wells Fargo Bank trusts.
In a joint
effort with Home Management Resources, grant requests were made to Well
Fargo Bank with the result being; $8,000 award to Home Management Resources.
This will enable Home Management to present the "New Beginnings"
series to Hope’s families on their site; $50,000 award toward building
costs of Hope’s Family Life Center.
Hope’s
project to Rebuild Family Life will include programming for women
and families that have been created internally, as well as those from
other organizations with which Hope had developed partnerships. Home
Management Resources will provide a key program component of the Family
Life Center.
Home Management
Resource’s vision is closely aligned with Hope’s. Both organizations
have mission statements that emphasize improving the quality of life
for the disenfranchised of our community, making the two organizations
a good partnership.
Most of
Hope’s residents come from dysfunctional homes without the benefit of
family nurturing. As a result, they have experienced little positive
modeling of healthy relationships. An environment that is clean and
ordered, with daily responsibilities clearly defined as a system of
accountability firmly in place is foreign to most of these men and women
and their families. Hope’s desire is to provide the most effective programming
possible to foster strong self-discipline and tools for managing a family
and household. "Home Management will be filling a ‘gap’ in our
programming that families desperately need to make the transition into
permanent housing", says Bruce Yerry, Executive Director.
This is
foundational to Home Management, which has been strengthening families
through the Family Life Seminar for over fifteen years. More recently
the "New Beginnings" series, developed specifically to address
the needs of the homeless, has been experiencing great success at the
Center For The Homeless.
To provide
an optimum environment for learning, Hope intends to offer Home Management
Resources approximately 1,650 square feet of on-site teaching space
for its New Beginnings series. This will include three separate areas:
Lecture
classroom 645 sq. ft.
Playroom
for program participants’ children 313 sq. ft.
Kitchen/teaching
area 690 sq. ft.
Home Management
is honored to be chosen to partner with Hope in its continued effort
of offering life-changing programs and services for the homeless and
poor of Michiana.
